Since last year there has been apprehension around Kano and its environs of the Government’s plan to sell Kano Zoological Garden.

The Garden which was constructed by the first military Governor of Kano State Alhaji Audu Bako was an attractive tourism center not only in some Northern states but Nigeria as a whole.

With the coming of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on May 29,2015, the administration has embarked on selling carve-outs of public buildings where they are mostly converted into shops and plazas.

One of those properties converted into shops and private buildings were the Malam Kato parade ground where soldiers remember fallen heroes every January 15th.

Another Public building that also causes serious outrage is the extension of Kano State Polytechnic which was converted into plots of land.

So also the Daula Hotel which was the oldest hotel built by Late Audu Bako of blessed memory.

Another Public building that was also converted and surrounded by shops is the Kano State investment and properties limited all during the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Only a part of the building houses the Kano Investment and properties Headquarters.

But when news circulated in and around Kano that the next pot of call for Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s plan in selling Public Properties was Kano Zoological Garden, critical stakeholders started to mount pressure on the state government to shelve the idea but to no avail.

Kano Zoological Garden: A Place Where Animals Complain And The Trees Are Silent

Environmentalists and other concerned Nigerian citizens wrote lengthy works of literature intimating Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the dangers that may arise of polluting the Kano environment if Audu Bako Zoological Garden is relocated from Kano city to another place outside the city.

NIGERIAN TRACKER gathers from an impeccable source that some prominent Kano state indigenes met Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje privately and discuss at length the implications of relocating Kano Zoological Garden to another place.

Those that met the Governor have a listening ear of Governor Ganduje due to their positions in the society as respected technocrats.

Our source said after deliberating with the Governor, he assured them that the issue of selling Kano Zoological Garden will never arise, and assured them that the state Government will liaise with them to reposition the Kano Zoo into one of the best, the source said.
