The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano state, Alh. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, has donated stationeries and text books worth millions of Naira to 1,340 Senior Secondary School form One students, from the 16 public secondary schools in his constituency.
Alh. Abubakar, who is the chairman, House committee on Works personally made the donation in Bichi town, headquarters of Bichi local government.
The donation included school bags, mathematical sets, notebooks and assorted textbooks on Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, English language, Economics, Home Management, Civic Education, Commerce and Financial Accounting.

Speaking during the public presentation of the donation, Alh. Abubakar said the move was to support the state government in implementing its free and compulsory education policy.
In this regard, the legislator further mentioned that he had recently engaged 106 unemployed NCE holders, who are citizens of the local government, to teach English and Mathematics in public primary schools in the domain.
“I have engaged those teachers as temporary staff, whom I pay personally, not only to take them off the streets but to enable them contribute to building the future of our children especially those in rural communities”.
Besides, Alh. Abubakar stated he has embarked upon the construction of additional classroom blocks in public primary and secondary schools in the local government to widen access to quality education.
“If you want to build the community, then you must invest in education. That is why I am investing in education. We need more doctors, more engineers, more scientists and other professionals. I will do whatever I can to support our students so that they can compete with any student anywhere in Nigeria”.
He tasked parents and school teachers in the domain to ensure that the students make good use of the items donated by focusing on academic and moral excellence.
While restating determination to do more for the education sector, Alh. Abubakar urged wealthy individuals and community development associations to invest substantially in education, stressing that their support is vital to the success of schools and individual students.
Speaking of behalf of parents and community leaders, the member representing Bichi in the state House of Assembly, Alh. Lawan Shehu and the immediate past chairman of the local government, Alh. Sani Muqaddas praised Alh. Abubakar Kabir described the gesture as a soaring leap in the right direction.
“What you have done is demonstrates leadership and is very cheering as the indigent parents of many of these children cannot buy books and other school consumables for them”.
