The Arewa youth consultative council has demanded the immediate arrest of Sunday Igboho and other perpetrators of Oyo carnage.
In a statement by Ambassador, Isah Ismaila said the perpetrators of the violence should immediately be arrested and prosecuted
The statement further reads
Imagine having over 5,000 Northerners trapped in Oyo as refugees including women and children displaced by this violence, imagine if this happens in the North, what will be the Local, National, and global headlines, what will be the heinous reports submitted by partial and sentimental human rights organizations and what will be the response of the Government to consoling the victims?.
OYO Carnage:10 killed, 30 missing as Amotekun allegedly ‘joined hoodlums to attack Northerners’ in Oyo
The entire Northern Youths are shocked to know that over 20 Northerners were killed and buried at the Akinyele Graveyard in Ibadan, we are yet to see arrests and brutal interrogation. As concerned and patriotic citizens of Nigeria, we are tirelessly working to calm our youths in order to avoid reprisal attacks all across the 19 Northern States, because we’re hopeful that the rule of law and natural justice will be served appropriately, even though we are yet to see the perpetrators arrested, especially the key instigators including SUNDAY IGBOHO. Our silence and patience are long becoming intolerable because we are openly seeing touts and politically motivated criminals are maiming and killing our brothers in the name of regional differences!.
Invest in the Media: A Call to Northern Elites
We choose to write this in order to keep in the record that entire Northern Nigeria are now keeping calm just to wait and see if Government will decisively deal with the perpetrators accordingly or not, if not the ‘Southern madness MAY lead to another Lawlessness in the North’. Therefore, let effective justice be served urgently and hoping that this won’t just is swept under the carpet!.
We painfully want to inform the Inspector General of police, the Defense Minister, National Security Adviser, and all security component in Nigeria that there are people trying to tear Nigeria for political reasons especially in south West, they should be arrested and dealt with or else anything worst may happen. Killing our brothers and destroying their properties in the South is fuelling the already heated tension in Nigeria and if we are to replicate on the Southerners living in Northern Nigeria; the whole story will be different, then let’s not allow to see the different story, lets work to solve it.
All across the 19 Northern States, we’ve accommodated Southerners peacefully in all our villages, markets, cities, Universities, public organizations, and generally in all the social institutions in the North. We must warn that when violence and jungle justice becomes a normal thing in the south, lawlessness and reprisal may surely take place and skyrocket to an unknown degree of damages in Northern Nigeria, we pray it doesn’t reach to that point.
We cannot continue to tolerate attacks on our innocent residents; simply because Fulanis are alleged to be committing crimes in any society, why will people be allowed to take laws into their hands?. Moreover, Northern Nigeria is the major victim of banditry, kidnapping, and killings, yet our brothers in the south are persecuted and killed in their places of business. The Nigerian Police Force and other law enforcement agencies should quickly arrest and prosecute persons in these crimes no matter who they are before we are forced to take stands we don’t want to take.
We wish to categorically remind the Nigerian police that the Southern trouble fuelers must not continue to go free without charges, having seen how the END SARS protesters are walking freely even after what they’ve caused, we must warn that if this “OYO MASSACRE” goes unpunished, we will not concede, allow it to go or forget; neither do we allow future recklessness and mercilessness to just go without any response from the North.
We hope that the invasion and destruction of Arewa settlers communities, killing of our people, destroying their properties would be regretted and consoled extremely, while all affected families be compensated handsomely and the perpetrators are dealt with mercilessly, in the same way, they were heartless and unpatriotic. Don’t allow ethnic violence to become a culture that will lead to another civil war. Arewa in general are law-abiding Nigerians and doesn’t want to be pushed to the extreme!’’
