900.000 school age children treated with Bilhaziasis in Zamfara

The zamfara state ministry of health with the support from Sight savers has treated about point nine million (900.000) school age children with Bilhazia within 45 days in the state.

Addressing newsmen today Friday,the state program officer sight savers Ahmed Ibrahim said they have successfully treated school age children across the 14 local government area of the state.

“The state ministry of health with support from Sight savers zamfara office successfully conducted mass administration of medicine across the 14 LGA’s in the state”.

He explained that the exercise was conducted from December 2020 to middle of January 2021 for the treatment and prevention of Bilhaziasis.

According to him,the treatment was targetting school age children that are between the age of 5 –14years old.

“Reports of the school based treatment show about 900.000 pupils were treated for Bilhaziasis with tablets of praziquantel during the exercise across the 14 LGA’s in the state.”

He maintained that despite the security challenges in some communities the treatment was successful.

“Some of the feedback received shows that some children who were suffering from the illness (Bilhaziasis)were cured after taking the plaquantel tablets which made their parents happy.”
