Major General Ibrahim Sani Backs Decriminalization Of Petty Offences

Major General Ibrahim Sani says decriminalization of petty offences will help in reducing criminal activities in the country.

Major –General  Sani made the statement while effecting the release of 23 Youth who were remanded in Kano Correctional centres of Goron Dutse and Kurmawa.

General Sani said is of paramount importance to release those that commit petty offences and cannot pay fine.

The General told the released persons said that committed grave offences like rape will not be released but will help the government in making sure justice is done.

Some Of The Released Persons

He said decriminalizing petty offences will help reduce crime because whenever a person is sighted sweeping a road or clearing gutter, that will make him stop committing the crime.

Among the 23 persons released 8 were children who are juvenile and have committed offences like stealing of handsets and were detained at Kano Remand Home.

General Sani admonished them not to commit the crime again.

The released persons’ fine ranges from 10 thousand Naira to fifteen thousand Naira.
