<p>Major General Ibrahim Sani says decriminalization of petty offences will help in reducing criminal activities in the country.</p>

<p>General Sani said is of paramount importance to release those that commit petty offences and cannot pay fine.</p>

<p>The General told the released persons said that committed grave offences like rape will not be released but will help the government in making sure justice is done.</p>

<p>He said decriminalizing petty offences will help reduce crime because whenever a person is sighted sweeping a road or clearing gutter, that will make him stop committing the crime.</p>
<p>Among the 23 persons released 8 were children who are juvenile and have committed offences like stealing of handsets and were detained at Kano Remand Home.</p>
<p>General Sani admonished them not to commit the crime again.</p>
<p>The released persons&#8217; fine ranges from 10 thousand Naira to fifteen thousand Naira.</p>
