Darmanawa Community of Kano State in Tarauni Local Government have accused Kano Emirate council of making plans to convert the only Eid-Ground being used by the community for years into plots of land.

The Spokesperson of the community Tijjani Yahaya made the lamentation while addressing Newsmen in Kano.

He said for years the Eid-Ground was given as a public property by the Late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero to be used for performing Eid-Congregational prayers.

He said the scenario started when representatives of Ado- Bayero Royal Trust fund came to tell them of cutting up the land and conversion as plots.

As a community, we did not agree on how can someone come from the Kano Emirate council that is supposed to protect the dignity of the Eid-Ground came to tell us of plans to convert the Eid Prayer Ground into plots

Then we sought an audience with the Emir of Kano to discuss the matter.

According to Tijjani Yahaya, the Emir asked the matter to be investigated and, later they sat with the Sarkin Shanun Kano and later Makaman Kano Abdullahi Sarki Ibrahim to sort out the issue for resolution.

Then we were told the Eid ground belongs to the Kano Emirate Council and they told us they will not stop converting the place into plots.

Tijjani Yahaya noted that they have been up and down on the issue since the 11th of November 2020 for the amicable resolution of the matter.

The spokesperson of the community said they later took the issue to Kano state Anti-corruption commission, with evidence of the number of the plot showing it as a public property with documents from Kano Bureau of land management.

But the state Anti-corruption told them that the Eid-Ground belongs to the Kano Emirate council.

When we heard the last issue from Kano Anti-corruption of saying the Eid ground belongs to emirate council we were scared despite the evidence we presented.

The community further called on the Kano State government to stop the Kano emirate council from converting the Eid-ground as a plot of land for building houses.

He said they assured the state government of their plan to continue utilizing the land for the use of the community as Eid-Ground.
