The next governor of Kano should, if he cares about the state’s generational development, invest heavily in education. With our population, I believe, Kano can rebuild its talent pool and produce the best brains from all walks of life.
I listened to Sarki Abba Abdulkadir’s long interview with Madubin Kabara. The man appeared gentle, sagacious, and spoke eloquently about his life journey so far.

Sarki Abba has an inspiring story; a story of someone that dared the overwhelming odds. A story of a pathologist that curiously drives inspiration through his work — a story of hard work, of patience, and greatness.
If you’re a product of Kano state science board, you would definitely have your different version’s of Sarki Abba’s story — a story of success that we learned religiously that year.
But one thing that played role in his life, as he mentioned, is his teachers and the schools he attended. He even mentioned that those days in Dawaki they had teachers with PhD and even have enough science labs.
Imagine having a PhD degree holder teaching you basic sciences, you know, that will be a solid start for secondary school students. But, when looking at our schools now, especially the public schools, you will conclude that they are but a general statement of failure.
If Kano still wants to give our country, the world, the best brains like Sarki Abba, there’s need to revive the Kano state science board project that produced Engineers, Medical Doctors, Scientists, Journalists, Lawyers, etc.
You would agree with me, if we can rebuild on that project, with our large population, Kano will have a knowledge-driven population that will produce more of Sarki Abba or even beyond that.
The infrastructure of our schools need to be revisited. Degree holders should be integrated into our schools with decent salary structure. As it stands, the science schools just have the tagged name, no drills or whatsoever.
The next governor of Kano should as a matter of urgency take a leave from building flyovers and invest heavily in the educational sector.
For Kano to be great again, we do not need too much politics, we need a progressive blueprint that will address educational deficits and related stuff in the state.
I hope we will get this right.
Role.
