The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, Esq has urged the Inspector General of police IGP Mohammed Adamu to order the immediate release of the 24 men allegedly detained illegally at the area 10 police station in Abuja.
Ojukwu stated further that “we have taken it upon ourselves to intervene in the matter and to ensure that these men gain their freedom”
According to the chief human rights officer, fndings by the commission reveals that the men who were allegedly brought from kano on the claims of illegal recruitment are languishing in area 10 police station insisting that they must be released or charged to court without further delay.

Ojukwu expressed displeasure over the manner some bad eggs in the system are projecting the image of the Force.
He stated further that the indicted police officers mentioned in the case must be made to face the ongoing independent investigative panel on allegations of human rights violations by Defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other units of the Nigerian Police. Adding that if found wanting they will be made to face the wrath of the law.
Ojukwu lamented that “corruption is the bedrock of most human rights violations”. He said rather than fight corruption, the bad eggs in the system are encouraging it by selling slots. “Officers who get appointed through such means will also turn around to syphone money from innocent victims to pay back the debts they incurred to get the job, this is very unfortunate” he said.
In a statement by Fatima Agwai Muhammad said the Executive Secretary called on the police and other agencies to be mindful of the way they conduct their recruitment exercise in other to safeguard the integrity of the system.
