National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of Persons, NAPTIP Monday revealed that sports now constitutes the major route used by human traffickers across the globe.
The head of public enlightenment, NAPTIP Kano command, Aliyu Abba Kalli speaking at a one day workshop organized by SWAN Kano state chapter with the Theme, “Sports As A Tool For Human Trafficking” he said sports is a pillar in economics, security and social activities, explaining that the status translates that there is huge monetary investment in the sector.
Adding that sports now constitute a huge challenge to security at all stages of human lives.
He revealed that investigations by renown global security outfits have indicated that sports is a challenge to domestic and global security framework.
Kalli alleged that security agencies have made raised fears over nefarious entrepreneurs who have devised investing in sports with the motive to use the privilege to exploit engaging in human trafficking and money laundering.
He further explained that “ some illegal business individuals have infiltrated into sports with a hidden motive, they pretend to be agent of players and recently some were arrested in Asia and are been prosecuted.
“federal government of Nigeria has directed all players traveling abroad to be vetted as a means to check the trafficking of Nigerians abroad using sports as a decoy.” Kalli stated.
