SWAN Flags Off Four Days Investigative Journalism Training

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Kano state chapter  Thursday flagged off a four days investigative journalism skills acquisition training workshop.

The chairman, SWAN Kano state chapter, Zahradeen Saleh in his welcome remarks  stated that the training sessions will equip participants with depth knowledge on early warning, security vigilance, sports and human  trafficking, sports and nutrition,  sports and money laundering.

He said  the motive is to empower SWAN Kano members with the capacity to craft and produce investigative  sports stories.

The Vice president SWAN North zone, Lurwan Idris Malikawa Garu appeal to sports writers to attach commitment and value to  the acquisition of  knowledge  to sharpen their media  skills.

“on behalf of the national secretariat and president of SWAN, I congratulate you for this efforts and be rest assured we will continue to supports initiatives that will broaden the capacity of our members.” Malikawa said.

In his opening remarks, the Executive chairman Kano state Sports Commission,  KSSC,  Ibrahim Galadima(MFR) applaud the organizers for what he described as a well thought out initiative

Galadim decry the state of sports development in the country, stressing that sports writers must hurry to the rescue by  embarking on   investigative reporting to unravel hidden facts and to propel state and non state actors into action.

He further lamented over  the poor  patronage of the sector by the operators in the  private sector, noting that the burden is to bulky for the state and federal governments to handle.

Among the dignitaries  that attended the even includes  commissioner of police, Kano command, CP Habu Sani CSP represented by  Mansur Idris,  Director DSS represented, from Nigeria Bar Association, NBA,  Barrister Yusuf Abdlsalaam, Nasiru Ibrahim chairman NRA Kano) magistrate Gwadabe,( Nigeria Football Coaches Council,Kano chapter) Former SSA to Kano state Goverment on Inter relations.Hon Abdulfatai Bimbo Yusuf.

24 Journalists from  broadcast and print media organizations took part in the first stage  of the  training.
