Lack Of Maternity Protection:2000 Children Die Daily In Nigeria

Two Thousand Children under five years die daily in Nigeria due to harzards associated with delivery.

The secretary Civil Society Scale Up Nutrition in Nigeria CS-SUNN in Kano, Ahmad Tijjani Yau stated this during a 5 day capacity building workshop organised for Media ,CBO’s and CSO’s in Kano on Breast Milk Substitute Code,Right to Food , Maternity Protection and Food Fortification.

Ahmad Tijjani Yau while Presenting a paper titled Understanding the Nigerian Policy Landscape for Maternity Protection, said reasons associated with the death include lack of access to health care facilities and a robust Health care systems the in Nigeria.

Apart from 2000 children under five years that dies every day in the country ,145 women of child bearing age also die daily in Nigeria who are in dire need of maternity protection.

Another causation of incessant death also among women and children is unfriendly services of Health care workers in Nigeria.

The Civil Society Scale Up Nutrition in Nigeria recently released a report on how two million children may die in Kano due to total lack of Nutrition since their delivery.

Recently, a Village in Jigawa State North-Western Nigeria have to raise funds and buy a vehicle that will take them to Urban areas for delivery in order to avert sudden death while going to Hospitals.
