The African Law Foundation has convened a Private Security Governance forum for the Northwest Zone in Kano.
The Private Security governance Forum is part of activities under the strengthening of private security regulation and oversight in Nigeria which is being implemented by African Law Foundation and Geneva Center for security sector governance in partnership with private security governance observatory and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp
In a remark, the Founder and Chief executive Officer of the African Law Foundation Barrister Okereke Chinwike said poor remuneration is one of the serious issues bedeviling Private security workers.
Barrister Chinweke said the African law foundation saw the need to improve the private security sector which is highly needed that is why stakeholders are brought here.
Chinweke said a multi-sectoral approach is very important to solve the challenges facing the sector.
The founder said the ministry of interior is very committed to improving the private security sector.
He said raising awareness for the sector is very important and makes a recommendation to relevant stakeholders.
The Participants
In a remark a lecturer with the department of continuing education Bayero University Kano comrade Nura Iro Maaji said the need for the Private security sector is very important and paramount because Nigeria is one of the least peaceful countries across the globe.
According to the Activist, the first Private Security company in Nigeria was founded in the year 1965 and there are issues militating against its peaceful coexistence.
In a remark, the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano Habu Abdu Tambuwal said Security is everybody’s business and in Kano, they considered private Security Guards as helpers in maintaining security in the state
