The 2020 edition of the rek-nown annual Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship has been postponed.
The Tournament Director, Yusuf Datti on Thursday, in a chat with sports writers at Kano Club located along Muritala Mohammed way blamed the postponement on the health risks not unconnected to the outbreak of the dreaded Covid-19 disease.
He stressed that the postmen was necessitated by the attendant risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yusuf lamented that the cancelled 2020 edition would have gone into history as the 34th edition of the oldest Tennis tournament in Northern Nigeria.
“It is painful, but we thought no matter how little the risk , we need to avoid it. With the outbreak of the pandemic no sector has not recorded loses Dala Hard Court is not an exception.
“be rest assured, we have no problem with our sponsors, after painstaking discussions and consultations, we decided to postponed the 34th edition of the tournament to 2021.
“the committee acknowledge that sporting competitions have resumed around the world , especially contact sports , however, the committee cannot ignore the attendant risk with this pandemic.
“we call on all stakeholders, especially our sponsors to understand and support our decision.
