Corruption : Nigeria Lost 548 billion Dollars in 60 Years

Nigeria has lost 548 billion dollars to corrupt practices since independence.

A resource person Mr Jide Ojo stated this while making presentation during a capacity building training on bloggers and influencers organised by Centre for information Technology and Development Via Zoom.

Mr Jide Ojo who took the participants through a well researched paper defines corruption as a form of dishonesty and criminal activity undertaken by an organisation.

Mr Jide said Transparency International has defined corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gains.

He said since independence billions of Naira has been drained through corrupt acts including the 548 billion dollars that was siphoned by Nigerian leaders since independence.

According to the presenter corruption has many wings including citing projects by politicians in their own senatorial districts like governors who are ruling a whole state.

Mr Jide cited how 11 Trillion Naira was diverted in the power sector from 1999 to date in the name of resuscitating the comatose area.

The presenter pointed out that from 2009 1 trillion Naira has been appropriated for constituency project in the country and nothing has been achieved.

In 2019 Nigeria was ranked 146 in the rank of corrupt countries in the world out of 186 and something need to be done to move out the country from highest corruption perception index.

He charged bloggers and Influencers to use their medium in trumpeting corruption and corrupt acts for the purpose of ensuring good governance and Accountability.
