Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to begin Liver Transplant

Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano says it will soon begin Liver Transplant as part of strategies to curb the trauma liver patients are battling with.

 

 

The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe stated this during the first liver surgery symposium in Advancing surgeries in Nigeria held at the premises of the Hospital.

Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe said  the Hospital has already gone far in Kidney Transplant and as of now the Hospital had transplanted over sixty Kidney  patients

The CMD said the symposium will improve the services given to liver patients and to decrease the incidence of liver disease in the country.

 

Prof SheShe said almost every day they operate on liver patients that have trauma with the disease.

 

On Medical Tourism  Abba Sheshe said there are patients that go to other countries but with increased funding and training and more recruitment the liver transplant will be more effective in AKTH.

 

The CMD said they will partner with other organizations and philanthropists to make it a reality, transplant surgeries, and others.

 

 

On his part, Dr. Ibrahim Suleiman of the department of Surgery AKTH said the symposium was organized due to the deficiency in managing liver fatalities and improve skills on liver surgery where experts from all fields were invited for the symposium.

He said the diseases in the liver are many which are very common like liver cancer which usually happens among those taking Alcohol and in places where people don’t take Alcohol Hepatitis B is very common which the symposium aims to address.

 

Dr. Suleiman said the symposium will avail the participants the opportunity to improve on surgeries and to reduce fatalities
