The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Command, said over 50 girls rescued by the command have given birth under its custody as a result of rape and other sexual violence against them before they were rescued.
Aliyu Abba, Public Relation Officer of the Command made this known on Thursday during a sensitization and advocacy on child molestation and trafficking in Kanwa, Warawa LGA, Kano organized by Honorable Mustapha Bala Dawaki, Member representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in collaboration with NAPTIP.
According to him, the command from January, 2020 to date has recorded over 1,506 cases of domestic trafficking, international trafficking, rape, sexual harassment, child labour, abuse and violence against persons.

That the command since inception has rescued a total of 4,500 victims of human trafficking with 85 percent of the victims being under age, only 20 percent are adults.
Abba further stated that 411 suspects have so far been arrested this year out of which 302 are male suspects while the remaining are female suspects and have concluded investigations in 252 cases from which over 65 convictions have been secured while others are pending in court.
In his remarks, the House of Reps Member, Mustapha Bala Dawaki represented by Harisu Musa ‘Yargaya said that, the sensitization seminar became pertinent considering increase of cases of human trafficking which often end up with stories of sexual molestation amongst the victims.
He said the aim of the seminar is to further educate those at the rural level and especially his constituents on the dangers of human trafficking and most disturbingly, child labour which has be come a norm amongst the villagers who send their underaged wards to the city for labour which is against the law of the land.
That the fact that Dawakin Kudu records few cases of human trafficking, all hand must be on deck to combat the menace wherever it is found in the state and nation at large.
Other highlights from the event include empowerment of the 800 participants comprising of males and females with N10,000 each to as a start up package to help them start up a small scale business while those already into one were urged to invest the capital into their business for more growth.
The four days program is expected to host 200 participants per day.
Some of the participants who expressed gratitude to Hon Mustapha pledged to be ambassadors against human trafficking and child labour among their various communities stressing that every message from the sensitization seminar would be taken back home.
