Few months to the local government’s election in Kano state, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje visited the State All Progressives Congress (APC) party Secretariat, Maiduguri Road, Kano, Wednesday.

He met party executives and other leaders from all the 44 local governments and other party elders.

While calling on them to field credible candidates in the forthcoming local government election early next year, he urged them to always obey party directives.

“In fielding candidates for the local government elections, you must make sure that you have good and dedicated party members. Don’t present someone who is unorganized and who doesn’t know his right from his left, we need very strong people,” he directed.

He reminded that what the party needs is those who would stand firm and support the party in subsequent elections, “…

we need people who will see other forthcoming elections as theirs. That is why we are saying we will make sure that we have the best hands,” he assured.

On stressing party supremacy, governor Ganduje said “We always say that party is extremely important and it is above all.

As we always support the party at all times. Party is the bedrock of politics.”

Adding that, the party is always superior to government, “…that is why I don’t take this and similar meetings to Government House, my office. The supremacy of the party must be seen to be maintained at all times.”

He warned against political thuggery in the forthcoming local government election and subsequent elections.

On fielding candidates for the local government election, he advised for consensus candidates, explaining that, “Leaders could sit and see how they can fill in our candidates. If there are any hiccups, they can refer such to us.

And if we still have unresolved issues, then aspirants can go for primary elections. We cannot truncate on anybody’s right. All aspirants have equal rights and chances to be elected during primaries as candidates.”

In a statement by Governor Ganduje’s CPS Abba Anwar quoted the Governor as saying  “We must all put hands on deck and make sure that our forthcoming local government election is held peacefully,” he advised.
