Journalists under the aegis of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN) Kano state chapter on Tuesday elected new officials with the mandate to run the affairs of the association on three years tenure.
The chairman SWANECO, Aminu Kwaru disclosed that aspirants who failed to fulfill and comply with the provision of SWAN statues were earlier disqualified.

He further said that, SWANECO in collaboration with the national secretariat of the association worked jointly to usher a free and fair electoral process.
“SWAN statues states that, when a candidate for a position is unopposed such persons /position shall not be subjected to voting.” Kwaru stated.
The supervising officer at the polls and Vice President, SWAN North West, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa noted that all processes laid down by SWAN statues had been complied with.
Malikawa said, SWANECO had conducted its activities in compliance with SWAN statues, urging sports writers to always remain conscious of the laws regulating their professional conducts.
The chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kano state council, comrade Abbas Ibrahim applaud the process that led to the emergence of the new SWAN Kano leadership.
He said “ we are all one family, the relationship between NUJ and SWAN is that of one family, we will always support SWAN Kano, if yes mistakes were made in the past, we will continue to work together for the betterment of our noble profession.
Our correspondent reports that those newly elected includes, chairman, Zahradeen Saleh, Secretary Abdulgafar Oladimeji, Asistant Secretary, Aminu Halilu, Treasurer, Tukur Arab, Financial Secretary, Abubakar Jubrin, Welfare Officer, Mubarak Ismail.
Prominent sports dignitaries who witnessed the event are , Special Adviser to Kano state governor on Sports, Alhaji Kabiru Beita, MD, Water Resources and Engineering Company(WRECA), chairman NUJ Kano state council, comrade Abbas Ibrahim, chairman, Nigeria Referees Association, NRA Kano council, Nasiru Ibrahim, chairman Nigeria Football Coaches Association,(NFCA) Danlami Usman Akawu ,among others.
