Kano state independent electoral commission says it’s going to conduct local government elections in Kano on January 16 2021.
The chairman of the commission Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka stated this while addressing Newsmen at the commission’s Headquarters in Kano.
Professor Garba Sheka says the commission decided on the date of January 16 after meeting the Political parties who are critical Stakeholders in the elections.

The chairman said the electoral commission KANSIEC is going to employ 48 thousand Ad-hoc Staffs for the elections.
Professor Garba said in order to follow the rules of not allowing the seats of LG chairmen to be vacant there is the need to conduct the elections so that Vacuum is not created.
According to him they are supposed to give 21 days notice but it was very tight and went ahead to borrow the rules of INEC there by giving 90 days to Political parties in Kano.
Professor Sheka pointed out that they have given contract for the procurement of electoral materials and assured that the mistake of February 11th 2018 will never be repeated
