Revenue Allocation Formula : Kano State Government Calls For Review

Kano State Commissioner for Local government and Chiftency affairs, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has called on federal government to review Allocation sharing formula and provide more funds to  local government for execution  of  viable projects

He says the formula has been in use for long time.

Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo made the call during a two day Sensitization and advocacy programme on Data gathering and Management for Kano State and its Local Government Chairmen organized by revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) which was held at Africa House Government House, Kano

Alhaji Murtala Garo said the Federal Government is enjoying over Fifty two 52% of the formula, while states are enjoying over Twenty two percent 22% while that of 774 Local Governments remains 20.6% .

Garo described as meager looking at the huge responsibilities of the Local Governments.

The Commissioner said the state government under the Ganduje administration is organizing seminars and conferences to local governments administration both locally and nationally to sensitized them on the need to improved their local revenue generation.

He described the sensitized programme as timely and expressed optimision that out come of the delibration will improve revenue generation at local level.

in his opening  remark, the head of delegation from (RMAFC) who is also a federal Commissioner representing Niger State Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu said the Commission organized the Exercise on data, gathering and management to interact, share ideas and rub minds and chart ways on how state and local governments can create and maintain a functional data bank for the purpose of timely record keeping that enable the state render a credible data to (RMAFC)

In a statement by Governor Ganduje’s Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media Alhaji Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Naisa said Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu called on local governments to diversify the economy for more source of incomes rather than depending largely on federal allocations.

Parts of the resolution made at the end of the exercise include the need to upgrade the existing solid minerals unit under the office of the special Adviser in to a full pledged ministry.

He also advised local governments in the state to make concerted effort to collect more revenue on ground and among their taxes.

it also called for an automation of data base to conform with global practice, enforce the use of e-treasury excepts, resuscitation of tourism infrastructure and capturing  of small and made enterprises among others.
