Kano Pillars handball side on Monday kicked off their preparations to represent Nigeria at the 2020 edition of the annual African Club handball championship slated for Cairo in Egypt .
The Kano state government sponsored handball side are also expected to defend the Prudent league handball title they won in 2019 in Lagos.
The Executive Chairman, Kano state Sports Commission, KSSC Ibrahim Galadima(MFR) who witnessed the maiden training session held at Kano Indoor Sports Hall cautioned the players that they are under the burden of stepping up their performances in their next continental campaign.
Galadima stated that the aim behind the early mobilization of the players is to prepare the team to defend their league title and also perform better when they file out to represent Nigeria in Egypt, come November.
He assured the players and officials that the state government would continue to support the team to defend their title .
The head coach of the team, Solomon Yola disclosed that the players are highly motivated.
He said “we have today started our preparations to defend our league title, starting from October 23rd to November 7th.
“November 13th, God willing, we will be in Cairo for the African club championship.
“we are now better motivated, because there is an improvement in our allowances and training equipments, hands have also been mobilized to fortify the team, our mission now is to focus, work hard and do well at both competitions.” Yola noted.
