CDGP Launch Kano State Legislative Forum On Social Protection

Action against Hunger (ACF) with support from DFID and in collaboration with Save the Children (SCI), will on 28th of September 2020 constitutes a legislative forum on Social protection policy (SP) in Kano, as part of its activity in the implementation of the project.

 

In a press statement released by the Communication advisor of ACF, Garba Salihu Abubakar stated that the objective of the event is to seek commitment and support from the legislators on prioritization and implementation of SP programs, serve as advocate and champions of Social protection and Raised Social protection champions among Legislatures.

 

 

In Nigeria, the Federal Government has increasingly continued to expand the social protection space by approving the National Social Protection Policy, establishing social protection programs and structures that include the national

 

Social Investment Programs and National Safety Nets Programs and Coordinating offices across the country and some states have adopted federal social protection programs, introduced state-specific programs and developed state-level social protection policies.

To sustain these gains, it is important to establish legislation and institutional frameworks to guide the implementation of social protection in Nigeria.

 

Garba Salihu Abubakar said the Social Protection legislative forum brings together a growing network of parliamentarians with a keen interest in accelerating the social protection implementation and coverage.

The launch of the legislative forum seeks to instigate a community conversation to get the word out to communities creatively, consistently, and effectively.

 

As crucial actors in the decision-making process in states. Participants for the forum will be drawn from various house committees of the House.
