Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission has denied involving the Deputy Governor of the state, Nasiru Gawuna in the ongoing investigation over allegations of corruption in the state’s Ministry of Agriculture.
In a letter signed by the Chairman of the Anti-corruption commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado on Tuesday, the body said Gawuna, who doubles as the state Commissioner of Agriculture, was not involved in the probe.
He said the commission had invited the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Director of Livestocks and other staff for probe over an offence, contrary to section 26 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission 2008(as amended).
He said “some sections of the media had portrayed the Deputy Governor as being involved in the investigation. This is mischievous, misleading and false.
” For clarity of doubt, the investigation was initiated with full consent, support and cooperation of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor.
“Therefore, the general public should disregard any false information suggesting that the Deputy Governor is under investigation,” part of the letter said.
Recall that the commission is said to have been investigating the permanent secretary, a director and some staff of the ministry allegation of diversion of some funds.
The commission had already recovered the sum of N7,150,000 out of the money said to have been diverted in the ministry, while other amount are going to be recovered.
