From Danliti Ibrahim.
Police have arrested President Muhammadu Buhari’s and ex governor Abdulaziz’s Yari’s supporter for allegedly having meeting with Bandits in Zamfara state.
The Police have said they arrested Alhaji Abubakar Dantabawa for allegedly having the meeting with bandits in his home, according to the Zamfara state police spokesman.
Abubakar Dantabawa, popularly known as Abu-Dantabawa, is an ardent supporter of president Muhammadu Buhari and Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, former governor of Zamfara state.
The police said they arrested him based on the intelligent information available to them.
However, many people in the state believed that the arrest was politically motivated, targeting opposition by Zamfara state PDP led government to silence them, as this is not the first time the state government arrested opposition leaders from APC in the name of security or banditry.
The state government arrested former commissioners of local government and chieftaincy affairs Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji and education, Alhaji Ibrahim DanMalikin Gidan Goga.
In a press briefing, Alhaji Abubakar Dantabawa debunked the allegation as baseless and politically motivated to tarnish his image.
According to him, he came in from Kaduna to sympathise with, and assist the victims of floods in his hometown.
After meeting with the representatives of the people from his town and discharged them, around 9pm the police stormed his resident and arrested him and 16 other friends.
And surprisingly, among those arrested when the police stormed his house were serving permanent secretary in the state civil service and other PDP members who, as friends, usually visited him whenever he’s around.
Now who are the Bandits he was accused of meeting with? Are they they ones?asked Dantabawa
Up till when he was released, he said nobody in the police told him what he did.
He only red the allegation in the media. Accused the police for stealing his N20 million during the raid.
He vowed to seek for redress in the court.
Moreover, members of the opposition APC led by the state.chairman Alhaji Lawalli Kaura staged a protest in the state capital, Gusau, accusing the police commissioner of being biased and partisan.
They accused him for dancing to the tune of the PDP led state government, harassing and maltreating their members.
The APC chairman said they have written several complaints to the Commissioner of Police against police brutality to their members, bit nothing has been done.
They have now decided to petition the IG of police and other relevant authorities.
Dantabawa said many residents of Gusau, the state capital, have expressed their displeasure for the incessant arrests of oppositions and politicising security issues in the state which, according to them, would not augur well for the state.
