The Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano has sued Kano state government over a plan to borrow N339,313,649,600.00 billion Naira to finance a light rail project in Kano metropolis.
In a statement signed by Deputy Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam and obtained by Nigerian Tracker says the loan does not mean well for the progress of the entire Kano populace and is meant to enslave the people.
The statement reads as follows
.’’ Gentlemen of the Press, It has come to our notice that, Kano State Government under the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is once again in the process of renewing its effort of contracting a loan facility to the tune of Six hundred and eighty-four million One hundred thousand One hundred Euros (€684,100,100.00) from China Development Bank for the financing of Light Rail Project in the State. The total adjusted loan facility is equivalent to N299,533,228,785.00 at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s official exchange rate and N339,313,649,600.00 at the current parallel market exchange rate of N469.00 to one Dollar.’’

Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam said the loan if allowed to be accessed by the state government it will not do any good to the people of the state as it blamed the Kano state House of Assembly for not protecting the interest of its constituents.
The statement added that the present APC government under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been enmeshed in various corruption allegations including Governor Ganduje thereby expressed pessimism that if the loan is obtained it is going to the black hole of Governor Ganduje’s babbanriga.
‘’Knowing full well that this same All Progress Congress(APC) – Gandujiyya Government under the Dr. Abdullahi UMAR Ganduje is neck-deep in a very weighty and messy allegation of corruption involving Millions of Dollars (USD) of which the governor himself is at the center of the graft with numerous video clips going round, we are certain that if this loan is obtained, it will be swallowed into the bottomless black hole of the governor’s babbanriga’’ noted Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
The Kwankwasiyya movement through Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam also said it is protesting the move as it has already directed its lawyers to institute a court case in challenging both the legitimacy and the procedural violations associated with the proposed loan.
Since Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje came to power in May 2015 his government’s plan to borrow and finance a light project in Kano has become subject of controversy and it was the first policy criticized by the 14 Emir Of Kano Muhammad Sunusi II at a public function in Kaduna state.
