Deputy Speaker Africa Youth Parliament Shamsudden Suleiman, has called on governments at all levels to put rigid and tough mechanisms in place that will ensure a credible distribution of monies and food materials to the segments of society who need it most as palliatives.
The Deputy Speaker said it’s shameful that some politicians and community leaders all across the country have developed the habit of diverting resources and money meant to cushion the impoverishing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting lockdown into their personal use. It is as unfortunate as it is disgusting.
The Youth body urged  governments  to ensure that such abhorrent practice is stopped.
Shamsudden Suleman also called on civil society leaders everywhere to hold leaders accountable in this very difficult time, we can’t allow corruption to pester unchallenged while we fight humanity’s current biggest enemy.
He pointed out thatPalliatives must be distributed fairly to those who evidently need Shamsudden urged.
The Youth Africa Parliament also implored the federal government to devise alternative ways to lockdown.
“Just today, WHO reported that coronavirus may not go anywhere any time soon. And we have health experts who are certain that even if we can have a vaccine for the virus, it would take us three years or so. I don’t think we should lock up our economies for that long, we can’t afford that as a developing nation. We should start opening up our economies but with strong underlying regulations. The use of face masks, washings of hands, and avoiding of crowded places must be strongly entrenched.”said Deputy Speaker Shamsudden.
