<p>To be fair to some of our elites, they don&#8217;t know the extent of the damage they did to our country in the last 35 years. They were immune from the systemic rot that was public schools.</p>
<p>Few of them attended schools in Nigeria and those who did, when they attended, there was semblance of sanity in those schools. Some public schools, (including GSS Kagara) are worst than Alcatraz of the Rockies. Sometimes it is nauseating and unbelievable if you travel around the nation&#8217;s rural areas.</p>
<p>Last year I was in Geshere, Fadan Kagoma and many villages around this area. <p>What happened in Kagara opened another chapter of how far and deep the rot is in public institutions. The GSS Kagara pictures is just one aspect of a the systemic rot narrative in most states. The only working institution in most states is the government house. Outside it, you have a picture of country that went though a 30-year old war.</p>

<p>That is why banditry, kidnappings and organised crime become rampant in our communities and neighbourhoods. As we shield ours, we allowed the children of the poor and disadvantaged in the society to fend for themselves. We killed the public primary and secondary schools. We are now harvesting what we sow in the last 3-4 decades.</p>
<p>While Boko Haram established its sovereignty in North-East, the North-West and North-Central have been taken over by armed bandits, kidnappers and criminal gangs. This is not time for blame game. We need to pause and refocus our attention to issues that matter.</p>

<p>As individuals, we are doing our best by calling attention to these issues that threaten our existence. it is now left for our political leaders to fear Allah and salvage this dying society.</p>
<p>Governors, especially have a big role to play in addressing these problems. My conversation with a friend recently scared the hell out of me. If you travel from Katsina to Kaduna, or Zaria to Sokoto, Abuja to Makurdi or Jos, Jos to Bauchi to Gombe etc, the absence of governance or misgovernance is scary.</p>
